MBLC Celebrates 125 Years

Langley Adams Library in Groveland

Langley Adams Library, Groveland1

In FY 1981, Groveland participated in the State Aid to Public Libraries program for the first time.2 With the recent passage of the Direct State Aid Bill, things were looking good for the libraries of the Commonwealth.

What else happened in 1981?

  • Chronicling the adventures of Indiana Jones, Raiders of the Lost Ark landed at the top the U.S. box office for the year.3
  • Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, married Lady Diana Spencer on July 29, 1981 at St. Paul's Cathedral in London.4
  • IBM introduced the personal computer in August 1981. An ad at the time gave this description: "Designed for business, school and home, the easy-to-use system sells for as little as $1,565. It offers many advanced features and, with optional software, may use hundreds of popular application programs."5
