The Commissioners Awards are presented by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners to recognize excellence and innovation in the Massachusetts library community.
Inspired by the founding members of the board, each award recognizes an individual for their exceptional efforts to continue the vision and spirit of the first five Commissioners. Two librarians, two Massachusetts government officials, and one former Commissioner are recognized.
The first awards were presented at a reception held at the Massachusetts State House on November 5, 2015 celebrating the 125th anniversary of the MBLC. Every five years, they will be presented to five of the state's library champions again.
