State Aid Review: Home

Periodically, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners works with the library community to review the State Aid to Public Libraries program's requirements, policies, and guidelines. The anticipated timeframe of this review is September 2014 through July 2015, with a report and recommendations to the Board.

The committee will assess the role of the state aid program in improving public library services through review of the current state aid program and review of approaches in other states.

UPDATE: The changes passed the regulatory process and will take effect July 1, 2017 (FY2018). They will be reported on the FY2019 State Aid Application. For additional information go to the Approved Changes page.

UPDATE: The Board of Library Commissioners approved three changes to the State Aid to Public Libraries program at their March 2016 meeting. These changes are subject to the outcome of the Regulatory process of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
