Steps for Application

The Grant Application Process

  1. Submit a Letter of Intent by April 28, 2023
  2. Attend an Application Workshop for Standard Grants or Small Population Grants
  3. Comply with all grant eligibility requirements
  4. Submit completed application to the MBLC by May 31, 2024. The application must include:
    • Standard Grant:
      • A library building program based on a 30-year planning horizon (See the MPLCP Library Building Programs LibGuide)
      • A condition assessment, if considering renovating and/or expanding the existing library or an existing municipally-owned building
      • A detailed assessment of municipal finances on the forms provided
      • Certified copies of local approvals for the project and funding ($150,000) for the planning and design phase
      • Details about the required materials are found in the Program Notice
    • Small Population Grant:
      • A statement of need
      • A detailed assessment of municipal finances on the forms provided
      • Certified copies of local approvals for the project and funding ($150,000) for the pre-planning phase and planning and design phase
      • Details about the required materials are found in the Program Notice
  5. Submit physical copies of certified votes and the wet signature copy of the application certification form to the MBLC office at 90 Canal Street, Suite 500, Boston, MA 02114. The documents must be received by the MBLC by 4:00pm on June 16, 2024.
